Accessing the NDIS
Welcome to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) – your gateway to accessing essential support and services tailored to your unique needs and goals. The process of accessing the NDIS is designed to be fair, transparent, and accessible to all Australians living with a disability. Whether you're a person with a disability, a family member, or a carer, here's what you need to know about how to access the NDIS.
20 Years Experience
Eligibility Criteria
To access the NDIS, you must meet certain eligibility criteria. This includes being under the age of 65, having a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to participate fully in everyday activities, and being an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected Special Category Visa holder. If you meet these criteria, you may be eligible to become an NDIS participant and receive support through the scheme.
OUR PLACE
Applying for NDIS Support
The first step in accessing the NDIS is to submit an access request to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the government body responsible for administering the scheme. You can do this by filling out an access request form, which is available on the NDIS website or by contacting the NDIA directly. In your access request, you'll need to provide information about your disability, how it impacts your daily life, and any supports or services you currently receive.
Assessment Process
Once your access request has been submitted, it will be reviewed by the NDIA to determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria for the NDIS. This may involve providing additional information or supporting documentation, such as medical reports or assessments from healthcare professionals. If further information is required, the NDIA will work with you to gather the necessary evidence to support your application.
Planning Meeting
If your access request is approved, you'll be invited to attend a planning meeting with an NDIS planner to develop your individualised support plan. This meeting is an opportunity for you to discuss your goals, needs, and aspirations, as well as the supports and services you require to achieve them. Your planner will work with you to develop a plan that is tailored to your unique circumstances and preferences.
Review and Appeals
If you're not satisfied with the outcome of your access request or plan, you have the right to request a review or lodge an appeal with the NDIA. This process allows you to challenge decisions made by the NDIA and seek a resolution that better meets your needs. You can also seek assistance from advocacy services or legal support if you require assistance with the review or appeals process.
